What your daily diet should do for you

A healthy diet should achieve all of the following objectives:

• It should have sufficient calories to maintain one’s metabolic needs and to power you through whatever activities you undertake. However, the number of calories should not be so high that it causes your body to begin storing excess amounts of fat. Stored fat should never be more than 30% of your body mass.

• A good diet should have sufficient quantities of fat including monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fat. This should be balanced by omega 6 and omega 3 lipids.

• It should also avoid saturated fats as much as possible, as well as trans-fats or trans-fatty acids as they are sometimes known.

• A good diet should also include a significant amount of amino acids (which are complete proteins). This provides replenishment to your cells and transports proteins throughout your body. All the essential amino acids are present in both animal and plant protein.

• There must be complete avoidance of directly poisonous substances such as heavy metals and carcinogenic substances.

One should also avoid high doses of certain foods that may be alright in small doses but not in large doses, such as:

• Food or substances with directly toxic properties such as ethyl alcohol.

• Foods that could exhaust the normal functions of the body such as eating refined carbohydrates that need extra dietary fiber to be digested.

• Foods that could interfere with other body processes, such as refined table salt.

The checklist seems simple enough because a simple list is exactly what it is. It is just a basic guide – a list of the dos and don’ts for your diet. Your lifestyle is becoming increasingly complex as is the food we eat.

The optimal diet has to be more than just the basics. It must include the basic food groups, as well making allowances for your specific health issues and aims.

The REAL Truth About The Truth

Statistics are the most effective way to scare a consumer into making a purchase.

Tell a potential customer that a certain product will lower his chance of a heart attack by 35% and he’ll whip out his credit card. Tell him that one in 5 men who buy a certain pill will find a better job within a year and he’ll seriously consider buying the obviously fraudulent product.
Show someone a magic bean and tell them that the last ten people who purchased it are living happy and healthy lives and they’ll scoop it up in a heartbeat.

Statistics are a markers favorite tool and any good salesperson will tell you that it’s the best way to seal any deal.

The Internet is abound with stats that have little basis in reality and only cause to confuse instead of educate. Statistics can be misleading and any good consumer should know how to differentiate the truth from the deception.

There are sites though, that do have the best of intentions and these websites which are trying to help rather than hurt should be commended for their honesty.

One stat that struck out at me recently observed that twenty years ago, Americans consumed 50 pounds of sugar per person. Today, Americans consume 150 pounds per person.

This stat initially sounded strange to me so I started doing some research to see if this could possibly be true. Does the average American really consume three times the amount of sugar a day versus twenty years ago?

What I found during my research scared me and made me realize why stats are such a powerful and important sales tool.

In my pursuit of the truth, I started reading all about the diet industry and the different methods that people create their eating habits. The more I read, the more I realized how problematic my own eating habits were.

I never realized how badly my eating habits were and how a lot of the problems I was having could be attributed to not having enough nutrition in my diet.

Thankful for making this revelation, I started researching what I could do to improve my situation. I wasn’t looking to necessarily lose weight (but it would be a nice bonus too), I just wanted to be healthy and have tons of energy.

In my pursuit of the truth, I stumbled upon an article entitled “Diet And Nutrition News You Can Use”. It contained everything I was looking for to create my own healthy eating habits plus links to other Dietary information.
